"Photography is a very lonely medium. There’s a kind of beautiful loneliness in voyeurism."

Alexander Gronsky

These are so beautiful to me...

Less Than 1 - "Less than 1 person per square kilometer is an average population of Russia's outmost regions in which this project was made" (from his website)

Gronsky's other project The Edge was recognized by Aperture with the 2009 portfolio prize.

"We are so distracted by and engulfed by the technologies we've created, and by the constant barrage of so-called information that comes our way, that more than ever to immerse yourself in an involving book seems socially useful... The place of stillness that you have to go to write, but also read seriously, is the point where you can actually make responsible decisions, where you can actually engage productively with an otherwise scary and unmanageable world"

Jonathan Franzen, TIME

Nymphoto interview with Amanda Marsalis (full text, here)

"NP: Where do you find inspiration?

AM: That is a hard question to answer. My first instinct is to say light – even to say love. When I love someone or something, I want to take a picture. When the light is beautiful, I want to take a picture. I would put Joan Didion on my list of inspirations, along with great meals, bands I love, the Met on a Sunday afternoon. It is so open though..."

P.S.>> I'm almost done with Miranda July's book "No One Belongs Here More Than You". It's a complex little collection of short stories. It's worth the read.

"If you weren’t a painter, what would you be doing?

Probably delivering pizzas or murdering people. I don’t know. I couldn’t imagine my life without being able to make things that I fall in love with."

"...Appearance and illusion, the reality of the camera and the photographic print, what we see or think we see, perception and how things are revealed photographically have always been in dialogue in his work. " (more from his "Glass House" series here)
